How to create a new user in Ubuntu, Linux Mint and Debian

How to create a new user using the adduser command, with adduser we will create the new user and add it to the sudo group, adduser is installing in all Debian-based distributions, such as Linux Mint and Ubuntu.




Open a Terminal, with the keyboard combinations,

Ctrl + Alt + T


1. Creating New Users

The new user that I am going to create is called love. I create the user love with adduser

The syntax

sudo adduser <new_user>

linux@linuxusers:~$ sudo adduser love


How to see this on a Terminal

For the new user can execute the sudo command, we add it to the sudo group, add the user love to the sudo group.

The syntax

sudo adduser <user_name> sudo

linux@linuxusers:~$ sudo adduser love sudo

You must restart your machine for the changes to take effect.

linux@linuxusers:~$ reboot

2. Delete a user account

Cancel the user love, but don't forget to be out of the user, when you to want to cancel it....

The syntax

sudo userdel -r <user_name>

Restart your computer

linux@linuxusers:~$ reboot
