How install VirtualBox on Linux Mint

Here will explain how to install VirtualBox in Linux Mint, this working for all Linux Mint Desktop (Cinnamon, Mate, and Xfce), we will use to install VirtualBox adding the third-party repository from VirtualBox.

1. Add virtualbox.list with your preferably Text editor (nano, gedit, vim,...) to /etc/apt/sources.list.d/virtualbox.list

For Linux Mint 19 and 19.1, 19.2, 19.3

Sources for Processors 32-bit

deb bionic contrib

Sources for Processors 64-bit

deb [arch=amd64] bionic contrib

For Linux Mint 18

Sources for Processors 32-bit

deb xenial contrib

Sources for Processors 64-bit

deb [arch=amd64] xenial contrib

With gedit Text editor

image open /etc/apt/sources.list with gedit text editor

How to show my /etc/apt/sources.list.d/virtualbox.list with virtualbox.list and packet sources for 64-bit processors

2. Add Oracle VirtualBox public key:


sudo apt-key add oracle_vbox_2016.asc

3. Install virtualbox-6.0, or search the VirtualBox website for the latest version, here

sudo apt-get update

sudo apt-get install virtualbox-6.0

Reboot your computer

sudo reboot

4. Start your new Virtualbox

In Applications + System Tools is the VirtualBox
